Pattaya is located in the heart of South East Asia which is ideal for travel in Asia. A short weekend trip to Vietnam or Cambodia cost almost nothing these days. If you wanted to travel Asia on the cheap but still wanted a home base then renting a bare bones apartment in Pattaya might be just the ticket. After a trip to another nearby country it would be nice to only have to fly a few hours instead of 10 to 16 hours.
